Section 1115 Demonstration Waiver for Substance Use Disorder Treatment

On January 2, 2019, Ohio requested a new 5-year section 1115 demonstration for substance use disorder (SUD) inpatient and residential treatment in managed care and fee-for-service for adults and children. This demonstration was requested to ensure a complete American Society of Addiction Medicine levels of care array is available as part of an essential continuum of care for Medicaid-enrolled individuals with opioid or other SUDs. The demonstration would permit Ohio to maintain critical access to medically-necessary SUD treatment services in the most appropriate setting for the member, regardless of length of stay, as part of a comprehensive continuum of SUD treatment services. The federal comment period will be open from January 17, 2019 through February 16, 2019.
